Out of the kitchen

This is all my fault. I had to go bragging about the wonderful weather in Massachusetts. It was hot yesterday, it is hot today, and it will be hot tomorrow.
I tried walking yesterday and it was oppressive. I walked this morning, hoping to avoid the heat, and it was more than oppressive despite a gentle breeze.
I have had many hard and dirty jobs that were trying in the heat. The heat never seemed to bother me as much as it did some other people. Something in me has changed. This heat is kicking the living bedoozus out of me. I am sitting and sipping iced orange juice and seem to have no appetite.
I realized the extent of my languor today. I had planned to go to the grocery store. This is a big deal to me and is probably my favorite activity. I walked about two hundred yards and retreated back home. My brother Paul, the air conditioning wizard, rebuilt a window unit and it is installed in the bedroom. I plan to spend the day in there reading, my other favorite activity.
There will be no cooking, I have enough brodetto to last several days. If the weather doesn't ameliorate by Thursday, I am off to the store anyway.
The potted plants are not doing well, I find that I have to water them every two hours. I have to walk through the kitchen to get to the porch and each time I do I remember the old maxim "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.".
