I recently mage a post full of rantings and ravings about life today. I went for a walk and marvelled at the carpet of cherry blossom petals on the street. This brought back a memory. When I was in the Army in Virginia, I often went to Washington D.C.. One evening I was walking by the National Archives. There was a homeless man sleeping on a stone bench. He was covered in cherry blossom petals. I remember thinking "Who in America has such a glorious blanket?". It was a time when I looked for the good things in life. Humans are wonderful at finding the problems with things. So many exams have the question "What's wrong with this picture?". Happiness comes from "What's right with this picture?". I thought of King Lear on the moor. Was it the captain in the Sea Wolf that raged at the storm? The captain of the Whyddah fired the cannons into the storm. There is no point in raging at life. It is an elemental force and the raging has no effect. I have been alone outside in a blizzard and remember the whisper of the snow as it fell. It is time to concentrate on the cherry blossoms, not the hard granite bench. I am growing tired of roasted chicken thighs. The people in Myanamar are tired of not having anything at all to eat. I will concentrate on the sweet taste of the roasted vegetables. The people of Myanamar concentrate on the joy of being alive. There are similarities to Lear in my life but, unlike Lear, I have no fool to accompany me and therefore must play the part myself. My grasp of reality is skewed and I would rather be called King Loon. OCD update: I spent quite some time counting up the ships in the Illiad and multiplied that figure by the average number of people on board. There were a lot of Greeks. It also appears that Homer had a nipple fetish. I am looking out of the window and see that the lilacs have bloomed. I think I will go for a sniff and bring the clippers with me.
I recently saw this video about Myanmar.. I guess things like this can almost put things in perspective for us in the good ol USA.. And I have the audacity to complain.
